This is the first time I’m taking part in Writer’s Quote Wednesday blog event hosted by Silver Threading and I hope to make it a regular thing. To go along with the whole theme of my blog, I would be choosing travel related quotes to keep your wanderlust burning.
Anita Desai is an Indian novelist, who has been shortlisted for the Booker Prize three times.
I loved this quote as it resonated deeply with me. It is so true, in fact.
Isn’t it a distant memory from UK that I’m now showing Mr. Bean cartoons to my daughter and watch it together with her, with a smile on my face? (Occasionally, I would be drinking milky tea at the same time – a drink, which I thought was completely wrong at first, but somehow it grew on me).
As a homage to my exchange student days in Austria, I still often order a white wine spritzer – weiss gespritzt.
Hamburg is largely responsible for me going crazy about Christmas market, Weinachtsmarkt, with its gluehwein and the smell of cinnamon in the air.
Shanghai made me almost immune to relocation worries. Language? Not a problem. A different culture? Nothing impossible to deal with. Foreign customs? All the more fun. It was so different that now that experience is hard to beat.
Moscow made me value time. A lot. Hours in traffic, endless city, spending more time getting somewhere than being there. Life is too short for an overcomplicated transport system.
Czech.. I guess, I would be able to tell you what I learnt from this place from a distance. For now, we are still in a process of transfusion.

Absolutely true!! And it is hard to differentiate whether you’ve become a part of the place or the place has become a part of you.

Sounds right, but I moved so much I start having troubles defining where home is. For me, home is the people I love, so I miss them anywhere I go.

Same here. I’m not here nor there. I cannot be one of the people here and I cannot go back to what I was simply because I am living here a lot longer than where I came from. But I miss the ambiance, the weather, the food, the scenery. I’m forever in limbo.

I think, it might be easier just to accept that instead of trying to work out where the home is – clearly stating that your situation always remains unclear :)
